… FG Refuses Demands
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike effective from Tuesday. Consequently, all doctors have been directed to down tools.
The NMA after an emergency meeting at the weekend said it is compelled to call its members out on strike following the alleged refusal of the Federal Government to meet their demands.
To halt the strike, the association insisted government must issue circular on their demands for restoration of sustainable sanity in patient care in Nigerian hospitals.
There is also indication that the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) might join the strike.
Prompt News recalls that association had in June issued a 14-day ultimatum in an open letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) dated 11th June, with the heading “Minimum End Point for Restoration of Sustainable Sanity in Patient Care in Nigerian Hospitals”.
